Newspaper Headlines: After rebasing, inflation drops to 24.48% in NBS January figures

Reports on the violence in Osun state, and the commotion in the Lagos house of assembly, perfuse the frontpages today.

The Punch reports that there was chaos at the Lagos state house of assembly on Monday over the alleged plot to coerce Mojisola Meranda, speaker of the house, into resigning. The newspaper says Lateef Fagbemi, attorney-general of the federation, has banned the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) from parading suspects.
Daily Trust reports that Mashariq Al Dhahabiah Al Mutawazi, the Saudi Arabian company, has threatened to drag Nigeria before an international arbitration court over the alleged failure of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to adhere to terms of contract. At least five people were killed, including Remi Abbas, a former chairman of Irewole LGA, during the violence that broke out across local government secretariats in Osun state, the newspaper says.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan have embarked on an indefinite strike over the power outage in some of the hospital’s residential areas. The newspaper says suspected armed herders have killed 19 people in renewed attacks on some communities in Kwande LGA of Benue state.
The Nation says the African Union (AU) has endorsed Nigeria as the digital trade champion for the continent under the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol. Nigeria’s inflation rate would drop to 24.48 percent following a rebasing by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the newspaper reports.
