Newspaper Headlines: Anxiety mounts over health of Olubadan-designate as kingmakers insist on seeing him

Stories on goodwill Easter messages from political leaders across the country, and a gloomy Easter in prospect for Nigerians given the prevailing economic hardship, permeate the frontpages of the newspapers. 

Daily Trust reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said the Nigerian economy had an inflow of over $1.5 billion in the past few days. The paper says the commissioner of police in Niger state presented cheques of N44 million to 38 families of deceased officers of the command. The newspaper adds that there is disquiet over President Bola Tinubu’s appointments so far.
Tribune reports that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, said he ignored the party’s convention because the LP leadership under Julius Abure, national chairman of the party, failed to consult widely before embarking on the convention. The newspaper says there is heightened anxiety over the health status of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, next in hierarchy to the Olubadan throne.
Guardian reports that Buba Marwa, chairman of NDLEA, said practices of some unscrupulous staff of the agency are a major impediment to Nigeria’s fight against illicit drugs. The newspaper says a panel investigating allegations of misconduct against Philip Shaibu, deputy governor of Edo, will start its sitting on April 3.
Vanguard details how 17 soldiers fell prey to suspected mercenaries and oil bunkerers in Okuama, Delta state. The newspaper says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed that 19 political parties will participate in the November 16 governorship election in Ondo state.
