Newspaper Headlines: APC, anti-Tinubu coalition battle for Buhari’s support ahead of 2027

Reports on political figures’ visits to the residence of former President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership crisis in the Labour Party (LP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) permeate the front pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The PUNCH reports that governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform are actively working to stop former President Muhammadu Buhari and his loyalists from aligning with opposition figures. The newspaper says eight passengers have been confirmed dead, while 11 others sustained severe injuries when a bus travelling along Maiduguri-Damboa road in Borno state stepped on an explosive.
Vanguard reports an alleged plot to grab land and wipe out natives in Plateau as the death toll from a renewed wave of killings in the state continues to rise. The paper reports that Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo state, said the ruling party is unperturbed about the 2027 elections.

 

Nigerian Tribune reports that the military has uncovered the plot of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) to establish bases in Plateau and Borno states. The newspaper says properties worth millions of naira were lost to another tanker explosion on Saturday at the Lead City University road near the Ibadan tollgate.

The Nation reports that Fitch has upgraded Nigeria’s credit rating to stable, citing the policy reforms of President Bola Tinubu. The newspaper also reports that Abdullahi Ganduje, the chairman of the APC, said the anti-Tinubu coalition for 2027 is doomed to fail.
