Newspaper Headlines: APC may unveil Tinubu’s running mate on Wednesday

The collapse of the national electricity grip leading to blackout in many parts of the country dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may select the running mate of Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the party, from the north-east, and unveil on Wednesday. The newspaper says blackouts have worsened in many parts of the country as the national grid collapsed for the fifth time in 2022.
The Nation says south-west governors are reorganising the security arrangement of the geopolitical zone against terrorists. The newspaper reports that gunmen have killed 11 people in Benue communities and abducted 50 people in Sokoto.
Daily Trust reports that bandits have abducted at least 50 wedding guests in Zamfara. The newspaper says the World Bank has predicted more hardship for Nigerians over rising inflation, and fuel and food shortages.
The Guardian says the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has insisted that a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for the two major political parties is a recipe for crisis. The newspaper says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the house of representatives may endorse Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, as the running mate of Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate.
The Nigerian Tribune says governors in the south-west have declared three-day mourning in the zone over the attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo state. The newspaper reports that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said its negotiations with the federal government will soon be concluded.
