Newspaper Headlines: Ballot box snatchers shot dead in Kogi guber poll

Results from Saturday’s governorship elections in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa states, permeate the front pages of the dailies today.

THISDAY reports that violence, vote buying, and apathy have marred governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states. The newspaper says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered its staff to declare links with politically exposed persons.

 

The Guardian reports that MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has denied clearing customers’ debt, saying it is network glitches. The newspaper says Benjamin Kalu, deputy speaker of the house of representatives, has begged residents of the south-east to reject the sit-at-home order in the zone.

 

Daily Trust reports that thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Zamfara have resorted to begging and scavenging. The newspaper says 20 students of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) were yesterday rushed to the university’s teaching hospital following a stampede at an examination hall in the campus.

The Nation reports that President Bola Tinubu has assured investors in Saudi Arabia that factors hampering ease-of-doing business in Nigeria will be removed. The newspaper says former President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the national assembly to make laws to prevent the conduct of off-cycle elections.

 

The Punch reports that Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa, and his Imo counterpart, Hope Uzodinma, are in early lead as collation of results progressed. The newspaper says cybercriminals are involved in the scam of sending malware links and fake part-time online job offers via SMS to mobile phone subscribers and messaging platforms with the intent to defraud unsuspecting persons.
