Newspaper Headlines: Bandits always a step ahead of government, says Sultan of Sokoto

Reports on the swearing-in of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the new governor of Ondo, following the death of Rotimi Akeredolu, permeate the front pages. 

The Punch reports that Aiyedatiwa has been sworn in as the new governor of Ondo following the death of Akeredolu. The newspaper says the federal government has promised justice for victims of the massacre in Plateau state.
The Nation reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed rumours suggesting a possible government takeover of Union Bank, Keystone Bank, and Titan Trust Bank. The newspaper says the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers command, has blamed the activities of pipeline vandals for the explosion which occurred in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA in the state over the weekend.
Daily Trust reports that Muhammadu Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, has condemned the gruesome killings of over 150 people in Plateau state, saying bandits are always a step ahead of the authorities. The newspaper says the Edo state government has slashed the budgetary allocation of the office of Phillip Shaibu, deputy governor of the state.
THISDAY reports that Vice-President Kashim Shettima has condoled with the people of Plateau over the massacre in some communities in the state. The newspaper says Riverside LNG, a Nigerian-based firm, is in talks to supply gas to South Africa, marking the first of such deals between both countries.
The Guardian reports that the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has fined British American Tobacco Nigeria Limited (BATN) and other affiliated companies $110 million for “infractions” of several laws. The newspaper says Rivers State Elders and Leaders Forum has faulted the peace deal initiated by President Bola Tinubu for warring parties in the state.
