Newspaper Headlines: Bawa spends 33 days in DSS custody | FG plans nationwide animal vaccination against anthrax

Reports on the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), dominate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the sudden resignation of Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore as the national chairman and national secretary of the APC respectively, was triggered by the manner they handled the contentious audit report of the party’s account. The newspaper says Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has spent 33 days in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

 

The Nation says Abubakar Kyari, the deputy national chairman (north), took over the running of the APC on Monday. The newspaper reports that the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO) said it has a database of 15 million poor and vulnerable Nigerians.

 

The Guardian reports that Nigeria spends over 99 percent of its revenue to service debts. The newspaper says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) have criticised the APC over what they described as a plot to intimidate the presidential election petition tribunal.

Vanguard reports that a group of lawyers have initiated contempt proceedings against Yusuf Bichi, director-general (DG) of the DSS, for failing to release Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The newspaper says President Bola Tinubu is “actively shopping” for a new national chairperson of the party.
