Newspaper Headlines: Blackout looms as TCN plans to disconnect 13 defaulting DisCos, GenCos

The aftermath of the February 18 governorship and house of assembly elections dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says protests have rocked Ogun, Abia, and Nasarawa states over the results of the February 18 governorship elections. The newspaper reports that the federal high court in Lagos has struck out the federal government’s suit seeking to recover and forfeit the sum of N70tn it alleged was stashed in 29 bank accounts by looters.
The Nation reports that Bola Tinubu, president-elect, says the 2023 elections are over and that it is time for the healing process to begin. The newspaper says that Nigerians are still battling naira scarcity despite the claim of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that nearly N1 trillion was pushed into circulation.
Daily Trust reports that governorship candidates who lost the February 18 elections in Kano, Lagos, Bauchi and Delta have rejected the results. The newspaper says President Muhammadu Buhari said he is eager to leave Aso Rock to become a “big landlord” back at home, working on his farms and tending his more than 300 animals.
Daily Independent reports that Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says the call by Tinubu for reconciliation among Nigerians is “hypocrisy”. The newspaper says Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, has called for the urgent passage of the Electoral Offences Act.
The Guardian reports that Tukur Mamu, publisher of Desert Herald, has been arraigned on a 10-count charge bordering on terrorism. The newspaper says Atiku and Peter Obi, presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), have filed a petition to challenge the victory of Tinubu.
