Newspaper Headlines: Buhari gives the red card to bandits and airfares on local routes crash

The statement of President Muhammadu Buhari that his administration will deal decisively with criminals, ruling out the possibility of amnesty for bandits made the headlines in many Nigerian newspapers. The mixed reactions to the bill that seeks to give state governments the power to negotiate workers’ minimum wage also made the headlines.

 

The Punch leads with a report that Oyo, Delta, Gombe, Akwa Ibom and Cross River support a bill seeking to decentralise negotiation of minimum wage. The newspaper also reports that labour unions rejected the bill on the grounds that it is against workers’ interest. On Nigeria’s vaccine strategy, the newspaper says the federal government is planning a supplementary budget to fund COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination.
