Newspaper Headlines: Buhari races to complete legacy projects ahead of May 29 handover

The ruling of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the validity of old naira notes dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

Saturday Punch reports that the supreme court criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for disobeying its order that the old N1,000, N500 and N200 notes should be allowed to circulate with the new notes until the final determination of the suit. The newspaper says seven states controlled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have withdrawn their case against the election of Bola Tinubu, the president-elect.
The Nation reports that the supreme court has ruled that the old naira notes are valid till December 31, 2023. The newspaper reports that at least 12 persons have been confirmed dead following an explosion at a crude oil tapping point in Rumuekpe community, Rivers state.
The Guardian reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, to resign for misleading Buhari to flout the supreme court order on the naira redesign policy. The newspaper says Tinubu has constituted his legal team to defend his mandate in court.
Daily Trust reports that Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, have been granted access to inspect materials used for the February 25 presidential election. The newspaper says Buhari is moving at a high speed to deliver some of the critical projects he inherited from previous administrations and those he initiated — ahead of the May 29 handover.
Saturday Sun reports that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has declared its resolve to support Obi to recover his mandate. The newspaper says mixed reactions have trailed the conduct of the presidential election by INEC.
