Newspaper Headlines: Buhari raises 2022 budget to N16.45trn

The request of President Muhammadu Buhari for the national assembly to review the 2022 – 2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy (MTEF/FSP) with a projected N16.45 trillion expenditure plan for 2022, dominated the cover pages.

The Punch reports that state governments and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) are on a collision course over teachers’ new salary scale. The newspaper says the federal government has asked Nigerian travellers to be prepared for seven-day isolation in the UK.
The Nation says Buhari has projected a N16.45 trillion expenditure plan for 2022 as N7.91 trillion will be needed to finance the deficit. The newspaper reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is probing N157 billion pension fund fraud.
The Daily Independent says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned that the Anambra governorship election is under threat. The newspaper reports that prominent leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are rallying round to ensure David Mark, former senate president, becomes national chairman.
Daily Sun reports that south-east governors have vowed to end the killings and sit-at-home order in the region. The newspaper says gunmen killed two officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) and burnt two vehicles in Imo and Enugu.
The Guardian says prices of second-hand vehicles imported to the country have soared  over hike in freight and clearing charges as well as scarcity of foreign exchange. The newspaper reports that adjustments in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) have raised the 2022 budget to N16.45 trillion.
