Newspaper Headlines: Buhari rejected offer to nominate my running mate, says Tinubu

Reports on the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to redesign N200, N500 and N1000 notes dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that CBN is expected to have destroyed over N6 trillion worth of mutilated and old bank notes when the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari ends in May 2023. The newspaper says the senate is currently investigating N2.2bn unaccounted expenditure allegedly collected by the federal ministry of justice, between 2017 and 2021 from the service wide votes.
Daily Trust says Buhari has confirmed that CBN got his approval on the  redesign of naira notes. The newspaper reports that leaders of the Afenifere socio-cultural group have endorsed Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
THISDAY reports that Babatunde Fashola, minister of works, said the federal government has not determined the extent of damages to roads infrastructure by recent flood incidents. The newspaper says Tinubu disclosed that Buhari declined to nominate his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.
The Guardian reports that the organised private sector (OPS) has asked presidential candidates to go beyond rhetoric and address the issues on how to resolve the country’s economic challenges. The newspaper says the aviation workers’ union has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the operator of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal II (MMA2) to reverse the sack of 37 members or face picketing, among others.
Vanguard reports Buhari is expected to hold emergency security meeting on Monday over terror alert in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The newspaper says Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has dared Iyorchia Ayu, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop the political ambition of his loyalists.
