Newspaper Headlines: Buhari threatens to sack service chiefs

The approval of the review of grazing reserves in 25 states by President Muhammadu Buhari and the comment of the president to military chiefs dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation says Buhari has threatened to remove military chiefs if they failed to tackle the country’s insecurity. The newspaper reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is monitoring the foreign exchange dealings of banks.
Daily Independent reports that 100 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have taken the party and Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe state, to court over the party’s caretaker leadership. Godswill Akpabio, minister of Niger Delta, said the three percent for host communities in the Petroleum Industry Act is for projects not sharing, the newspaper says.
The Punch says the peace pact of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has crumbled as Uche Secondus, the party’s national chairman, and Former President Olusegun Obasanjo met behind closed doors. The newspaper says Buhari has approved review of 368 grazing sites in 25 states.
The Guardian reports that the court rejected the suit seeking to stop the arrest and extradition of Abba Kyari, suspended deputy commissioner of police over his indictment in Hushpuppi’s fraud. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has listed Charles Soludo, former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the newspaper says.
The Daily Sun says there is outrage in Edo over the planned installment of Sultan of Shuwa Arab of Edo in the state. The newspaper reports that Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, and Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti, have asked Nigerians to defend democracy.
