Newspaper Headlines: Cash scarcity mars FG’s inter-state travels discount

The report of the investigator appointed to probe Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), dominates the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that Jim Obazee, the special investigator on the CBN, has accused Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the apex bank, of illegally operating over 593 bank accounts in the United States, United Kingdom, and China without the approval of the bank’s board of directors and investment committee. The newspaper says the federal government has announced the mechanical completion of rehabilitation work on Port Harcourt refinery in Rivers state.
Daily Trust reports that many Nigerians have shelved their plans to travel home for the Christmas and New Year holidays due to lack of cash, despite the federal government’s intervention on discount of transport fares. The newspaper says the senate has confirmed 11 supreme court justices.

THISDAY reports that David Briggs, a member of Rivers State Elders and Leaders Forum, who was present at the meeting to resolve the political crisis in the state, said President Bola Tinubu brought the controversial peace terms. The newspaper says a London court has refused to grant an application by Process & Industrial Development (P&ID) seeking to appeal the judgment halting the enforcement of its $11 billion award against Nigeria.
