Newspaper Headlines: CBN asks banks to review loans disbursed to oil & gas, agric sectors

Issues on the country’s petroleum industry and the speculation that the federal government may remove petrol subsidy appeared on the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that stakeholders in the petroleum industry have explained why the federal government cannot remove fuel subsidy at the moment. The newspaper says Kwara state government has instituted a panel to investigate the flogging of students at an Arabic school in the state.
The Nation says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has asked commercial banks to review loans disbursed to oil, gas and agriculture sectors. The newspaper reports that the federal government said terrorists are colluding with bandits.
Daily Independent says banks are worried that the CBN’s e-naira may erode their profits. The newspaper says the 2023 presidential ambition of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo may set him on a collision course with Ahmed Tinubu, former governor of Lagos state, who is also eyeing the presidency.
The Guardian reports that the crisis in the energy sector is set to push prices of petrol and diesel above N350 per litre. The newspaper says Bukola Saraki, former senate president, has cautioned the national assembly against making direct primary compulsory.
