Newspaper Headlines: CCB asks Tinubu, governors-elect to declare assets before May 29

Reports on the tussle for leadership positions in the 10th national assembly and the evacuation of Nigerians stranded in Sudan dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has asked Bola Tinubu, president-elect, Kashim Shettima, vice president-elect, and 28 incoming governors to declare their assets before May 29. The newspaper reports that the federal government said all Nigerians fleeing the war in Sudan but got stranded at the Egypt border have been airlifted and brought back to Nigeria.
THISDAY reports that the national working committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is expected to meet today to ratify its proposed consensus and zoning arrangement for the leadership positions of the 10th national assembly. The newspaper says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the APC of plotting to influence the outcome of the presidential election petitions.
Daily Trust reports that lawmakers-elect eyeing the position of the speaker of the 10th national assembly are planning against Tajudeen Abbas, who is said to be Tinubu’s anointed candidate. The newspaper says the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an alarm over the importation and use of pesticides banned in Europe.
Daily Independent reports that financial analysts said the national assembly’s approval of the N22.7 trillion loan taken from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by the federal government is a “mixed bag” for the country. The newspaper says President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to inaugurate the Dangote refinery on May 22.
Daily Sun reports that south-east senators-elect have demanded that the position of the senate president of the 10th national assembly be ceded to the zone in the spirit of justice, fairness, and unity. The newspaper says 1,471 Nigerians evacuated from Sudan have arrived in the country.
