Newspaper Headlines: Civil servants padded 2021, 2022 budgets with N400bn duplicated projects, says ICPC

Reports on how the surge in Nigeria’s inflation rate, rise in the prices of food items and other indicators of economic crisis dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation says Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has warned that the party may lose the 2023 presidential election owing to its internal wranglings. The newspaper reports that the national security council said the National Taskforce on Prohibition of Illegal Importation/Smuggling of Arms, Ammunition, Light Weapons, Chemical weapons and Pipelines Vandalism (NATFORCE) is an illegal organisation.
The Punch says Nigeria’s current inflation rate is reflecting in the rising cost of living crisis facing Nigerian families and firms. The newspaper reports that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has uncovered N400 billion fraud in 2021 and 2022 budgets.
Daily Trust says many African countries are presently battling a surge in inflation rates. The newspaper reports that the the federal government has conferred citizenship on 286 foreigners.
The Guardian says Mele Kyari, group chief executive officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, said the Nigeria-Morocco gas project will create wealth. The newspaper reports that air travellers commuting between northern and southern regions of the country are facing hardship following the suspension of Azman Air.
THISDAY reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has released the list of members of its presidential campaign council. The newspaper says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that there is no new addition or subtraction from the voters’ register.
