Newspaper Headlines: CJN to set up s’court panel for presidential election petition next week

Reports on Nigeria’s inflation rate and the appointment of the new governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says Olukayode Ariwoola, chief justice of Nigeria, will on Wednesday constitute the supreme court panel that will hear the appeal arising from the judgment of the presidential election petition tribunal. The newspaper reports that many rice farmers are under pressure to repay the loans obtained from the CBN under the anchor borrower programme.
The Nation reports that Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano, has sacked Adamu Aliyu, the commissioner for lands, for issuing a threat to the judges of the governorship election petition tribunal in the state. The newspaper says President Bola Tinubu has named Yemi Cardoso as the new governor of CBN.
Daily Independent reports that stakeholders have joined the call for the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to deny authorisation to third parties for the marketing of GlaxoSmithKline Plc products in the country. The newspaper says Dele Alake, minister of solid minerals development, said the federal government will collaborate with states to harness solid mineral resources.
The Guardian says Tinubu will depart Abuja, the nation’s capital, to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, on Sunday. The newspaper reports that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized 4,000 cartons of banned Crusader soaps.
THISDAY reports that the consumer price index (CPI), which measures the rate of change in prices of goods and services, increased to 25.80 percent in August. The newspaper says Lagos tops the list of states with high domestic debts with a N996.44 billion debt profile as of June 2023.
