Newspaper Headlines: Consensus plan for 2023 presidential ticket unsettles APC

Reports on the planned increase in the price of essential services like data, calls and electricity dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the consensus plan of the All Progressives Congress for its 2023 presidential ticket is unsettling the party. The newspaper says subscribers have rejected the proposed 40 percent hike in tariff by telecommunications companies.
The Nation says the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has asked the southern part of the country to stop issuing threats over zoning and power shift to the region in 2023. The newspaper says 17 presidential hopefuls have purchased the nomination form of the APC.
The Guardian says Igbo leaders asked President Muhammadu Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The newspaper reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has asked political parties to abide by the June 3 deadline for primaries.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that the World Health Organisation (WHO) said COVID-19 killed nearly 15 million people in two years. The newspaper says Nigerians have expressed anger over the plan of  vice chancellors’ wives of Nigerian universities to attend a workshop in Turkey amid the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
