Newspaper Headlines: Cost of Dangote petrol may justify more importation, say marketers

Reports on the price of petrol from Dangote Petrochemical Refinery dominate the frontpages of the newspapers.

The Punch reports that the recent hike in the price of petrol has forced the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to increase its financial commitment to the transport unions that would be involved in Saturday’s Edo governorship election. The newspaper reports oil marketers as saying that the price of petrol from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery as released by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) may justify the importation of the commodity. 
Daily Trust reports that flooding has continued to ravage states despite the N39.62 billion ecological funds disbursed to the 36 states and the federal capital territory (FCT) from the federation account within the last one year. The newspaper says many people travelling to celebrate the Eid-el-Mawlid have died in a road accident along the Kaduna-Saminaka road in Lere LGA of Kaduna state.
Vanguard reports that President Bola Tinubu on Monday announced a disaster relief fund in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, to assist those affected by floods and other disasters. The newspaper says Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), has officially announced her intention to seek another four-year term as head of the organisation.
The Guardian reports that although the inflation rate reduced to 32.1 percent in August, new triggers of inflation like recent hike in petrol price and naira depreciation are around the corner. The newspaper says Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, has lamented the influx of unaffected persons into the camps of those displaced by flood in the state.
