Newspaper Headlines: Crises threaten ruling parties’ victory in Delta, Ogun, Sokoto 2023 polls

The comment of the presidency on how terrorists who kidnapped Kaduna train passengers reneged on the agreement to release all victims dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

Saturday Punch reports that the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) retaining power beyond 2023 in some of the states they govern are fading owing to internal crisis. The Nation says Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has told Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate, not to blame him if he loses the 2023 election. The newspaper says governors have expressed concern over the insistence of Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, on paying consultants for the Paris Club refund.
The Guardian says Wike has denied filing a legal suit against Atiku and PDP on the conduct of the party’s presidential primary. The newspaper reports that the call for youth-friendly policies made the front burner during Nigeria’s celebration of International Youth Day.
Saturday Sun reports that the plot for the removal of Abdullahi Adamu, APC national chairman, has gained momentum. The newspaper says Yoruba groups are divided over the presidential ambitions of Tinubu and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
