Newspaper Headlines: Dangote gets NNPC’s first supply in naira-for-crude deal

Reports on the recurring collapse of the national power grid, and the ban on the export of cooking gas, suffuse the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other chieftains of the party are divided over the fate of Umar Damagum, the party’s acting national chairman. The newspaper says the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has received four cargoes of crude oil from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited under the naira-for-crude sale agreement.
The Nation reports that Lateef Fagbemi, attorney-general of the federation, has appealed to the supreme court to dismiss the suit filed by some state governments to challenge the legality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The newspaper says Umar Namadi, governor of Jigawa, said 181 people died in the October 15 petrol tanker explosion in the state.
Daily Trust reports that barbers, tailors, millers and owners of small businesses are lamenting the blackout that swept through swathes of northern Nigeria on Tuesday. The newspaper says Farouk Lawan, a former member of the house of representatives, has been released from prison after serving his five-year jail term over bribery.
Vanguard reports that prominent members of the Organised Private Sector (OPS) yesterday raised concerns over frequent collapses of the national grid. The newspaper says the federal government has banned export of liquefied petroleum gas, popularly known as cooking gas, as prices of the product continue to rise.
