Newspaper Headlines: Death toll from cholera outbreak rises to 378, says NCDC

Reports on the World Bank’s take on President Bola Tinubu’s controversial reforms permeate the frontpages today. 

The dailies also dwell on the fatalities from the Jigawa petrol tanker explosion and how a compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle exploded in Edo.

The Punch reports the World Bank as saying that more than 129 million Nigerians now live below the poverty line. The newspaper says the federal government has promised to assist Jigawa state in rebuilding and rehabilitating Majia town, where a fuel tanker explosion claimed 153 lives on Tuesday. Punch quotes the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as stating that cholera has now killed 378 persons nationwide following the latest outbreak. 
Daily Trust reports that Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser, has accused some security agents of supplying arms to terrorists and bandits. The newspaper says the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency has urged communities along the Rivers Benue and Niger to relocate, due to the rise in water levels caused by continuous rainfall.
Vanguard reports that a car powered by CNG exploded at a NIPCO filling station on Benin-Auchi road in Edo state. The newspaper says the federal government has inaugurated a committee on the implementation of a cashless tolling system on the Keffi-Akwanga-Makurdi road.
The Guardian reports that the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) said candidates who will be aged 16 by August 2025 can be admitted to tertiary institutions. The newspaper says Nigeria’s statutory revenue inflows dropped by N177.426 billion in September.
