Newspaper Headlines: Depots deserted as petrol landing cost hits N720/litre

Reports of Atiku Abubakar saying he will not drop his scrutiny of President Bola Tinubu’s academic records until the apex court rules against him, suffuse the front pages of Nigerian dailies.  

The Punch says motorists are lamenting as the Lagos-Abeokuta highway remains a death trap. The newspaper says the ministry of works is seeking N217 billion from the federal government to rehabilitate 260 failed roads across the country. 
The Nation says the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has revealed that Nigeria’s active mobile subscriptions have reached 220.7 million as of August 2023. The newspaper reports that at least eight people have been killed in communal clashes between Ilobu and Ifon towns in Osun.
Daily Trust reports that Atiku has called on Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), to join him in the fight to establish the authenticity of Tinubu’s certificates. The newspaper says the corpse of Ardo, a Fulani leader of the Panyam district of Mangu LGA of Plateau, has been found.

Daily Independent says the senate has summoned security chiefs over the kidnap of female students in Zamfara and Katsina. The newspaper reports that the Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that its operatives have arrested Cyril Ndifon, suspended lecturer of law at the University of Calabar, over alleged sexual harassment of students.
