Newspaper Headlines: Despite generating billions from nomination forms, APC faces cash crunch

The release of the list of candidates for the 2023 elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says INEC has cleared 18 presidential candidates to contest for the number one seat in the country while 4,233 candidates are set to contest the seats in the national assembly. The newspaper reports that President Muhammadu Buhari is seeking the approval of the senate for N402 billion promissory notes.
Daily Trust says the All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing a cash crunch despite generating billions in sale of nomination forms. The newspaper reports that the senate has warned that crude oil theft may crash the Nigerian economy.
The Nigerian Tribune says Godwill Akpabio, former minister of Niger Delta affairs, made the senatorial list of INEC while Ahmad Lawan, senate president, is missing from the list. The newspaper reports that Ohanaeze Ndigbo has warned the federal government not to allow Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to die in detention.
The Guardian says President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration will leave behind over N60.9 trillion debt at the end of its tenure in 2023. The newspaper reports that an environmentalist has raised the alarm over gas leakage in Ogbia LGA, Bayelsa state.
Daily Independent reports that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said it did not get fruitful intervention from both chambers of the national assembly before the commencement of strike. Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, has asked politicians to expect surprise from voters in the 2023 elections, the newspaper says.
