Newspaper Headlines: EFCC arrests humanitarian ministry contractor, probes 3 Buhari ministers

Details of the special investigator report accusing Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), of corruption, dominate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a contractor, James Okwete, in connection with the ongoing probe into the N37bn allegedly laundered by the ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management, and social development. Wole Soyinka, the Nobel laureate, said he will assess the administration of President Bola Tinubu after one year in office.

Daily Trust reports that Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the CBN, has threatened to sue Jim Obazee, the special investigator who accused Emefiele of opening 593 foreign bank accounts without the approval of either President Muhammadu Buhari or the apex bank board of directors.

THISDAY reports that Emefiele and Titan Trust Bank (TTB) have rejected the special investigative report by the Obazee panel. The newspaper says the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN) has approved a rise in the cover prices of newspapers in Nigeria, four years after the last increment.
