Newspaper Headlines: EFCC detains social investment scheme coordinator over N17bn cash withdrawal

Reports on the arrest and detention of Halima Shehu, the national coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), dominate the front pages today. 

The Punch reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) have clashed over the removal of subsidy on petrol. The newspaper says commercial banks have commenced a massive recovery of the loans disbursed to Nigerians to cushion the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Nation says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Halima Shehu, the national coordinator and chief executive officer (CEO) of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA). The newspaper reports that the senate has ordered a probe into the N10 billion restructuring funds released to NIPOST by the federal ministry of finance.
Daily Trust reports that governors in the north-central zone have asked the federal government to identify the root cause of the Plateau killings for lasting peace. The newspaper says the approved allocation of N344.48 billion to the national assembly is higher than the combined allocations of the 15 biggest federal universities in the country.
The Guardian reports that 29 states have failed to access N68.73 billion Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) matching grant to boost primary education in 2023. The newspaper says southern and middle belt leaders have petitioned President Bola Tinubu on the need to urgently restructure the country.
THISDAY reports that David Mark, former senate president, has asked Tinubu to review the country’s security architecture. The newspaper says Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, said the party is ready to play its role as Nigeria’s main opposition party.
