Newspaper Headlines: EFCC freezes N3bn in bank account of Hadi Sirika’s brother

Reports on the protest in Niger state over the rising cost of living, and the kidnapping in Kogi, dominate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that statutory allocations from the federal account allocation committee to the 36 states and 774 LGAs from July to December 2023, increased to N3.34 trillion. The newspaper says the Kogi state police command has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers of travellers at Olamaboro LGA of Kogi state.
The Nation reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has questioned Abubakar Ahmad Sirika, the brother of Hadi Sirika, former minister of aviation, over an alleged N8.06 billion contract fraud in the ministry. The newspaper says Olayemi Cardoso, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), said reforms in Nigeria’s foreign exchange have started to yield positive results.
Daily Trust reports that residents of Minna in Niger state took to the streets to protest the rising cost of living in the country. The newspaper says Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa, has promised to prosecute individuals who allegedly colluded with Hudu Ari, suspended resident electoral commissioner (REC), during the 2023 gubernatorial election.
THISDAY reports that the African Development Bank (AfDB) is set to commence the disbursement of $540 million to the first phase of states in Nigeria, for the development of special agro-industrial processing zones (SAPZs).
