Newspaper Headlines: EFCC probes immigration over alleged passport, visa scams

The Punch reports that the prices of foodstuffs have again skyrocketed in major markets across the country as Nigerians engaged in panic buying ahead of the nationwide protest. The newspaper says the house of representatives joint special committee investigating challenges confronting the petroleum sector has directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) to halt crude oil-backed loans.
Daily Trust reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced an investigation into the activities of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) over alleged passport racketeering and visa scams. The newspaper says the National Pension Commission (PenCom) has revealed that it recorded N20.48 trillion as total pension fund assets in June 2024.
The Guardian reports that the police command in Lagos said it deactivated an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Ikeja area of the state. The newspaper says the Adamawa state government has denied receiving 20 trucks of grains from the federal government.

The Nation reports that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the payment of N1,172,388,340.00 to cover the tuition of 20,000 students in five institutions. The newspaper says the EFCC recovered over N231.623 billion in the first year of the Bola Tinubu administration.
