Newspaper Headlines: EFCC recovers N30bn looted funds from humanitarian ministry

The national dailies report that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered N30 billion from the sum allegedly laundered by the ministry of humanitarian affairs in the last administration.

Tribune says Shehu Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna central senatorial district, said over 10,000 schools in the north have been shut due to kidnapping and terrorism. The newspaper reports that over 60 lives have been lost in three months following the attacks by suspected armed herders who invaded communities in Agatu LGA of Benue.
Punch reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered over N30 billion from the alleged money laundered in the ministry of humanitarian affairs under Sadiya Umar-Farouk, the former minister. The newspaper says the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is grappling with the rising and seemingly intractable use of unconventional substances among youths in Borno, to get high.
Guardian reports that Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace, said foreign airlines still have about $600 million backlog trapped in commercial banks. The newspaper says voter apathy and violence marred the Saturday rerun and by-elections in the country.
Daily Trust says the federal government is tracking social media content creators and influencers over tax evasion. The newspaper reported that the volatility in the exchange rate of the naira has raised the fare for the 2024 intending Muslim pilgrims from the initial N4.5 million pegged by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to N4.9 million.
