Newspaper Headlines: EFCC to arraign Yahaya Bello today

Reports on the arrest and planned arraignment of Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi, permeate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will on Wednesday arraign Bello after previous failed attempts. The newspaper says federal pensioners under the contributory pension scheme have asked the federal government to release accrued gratuities owed pensioners from March 2023 to November 2024.
Daily Trust reports that the price of petrol may drop following the commencement of operations at the Port Harcourt refinery in Rivers state. The newspaper says Christopher Musa, the chief of defence staff, said terrorists’ logistics suppliers are frustrating the counter-insurgency war.
Nigerian Tribune reports that President Bola Tinubu has set a target for the revival of the Warri and Kaduna refineries following the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt plant. The newspaper says the monetary policy committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has raised the monetary policy rate (MPR), which benchmarks interest rates in the country, to 27.50 percent — from 27.25 percent.
The Nation reports the CBN as saying that the increase in interest rate will curb inflation and ensure stability. The newspaper says the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission (PCACC) has discovered a warehouse where 16,800 bags of rice, earmarked as palliative by the federal government, are being reportedly repackaged for the open market.
