Newspaper Headlines: FEC may consider new minimum wage today

Reports on the minimum wage saga, and speculations over the plot to dethrone the Sultan of Sokoto, permeate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that operators in the downstream oil sector have called on the federal government to intervene by ensuring the supply of crude oil to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. The newspaper says the presidency has appealed that President Bola Tinubu will transmit the proposed bill on the new minimum wage to the national assembly once ready.
Daily Trust reports that Vice-President Kashim Shettima said the Sultan of Sokoto represents an idea that must be jealously guarded and projected for the growth of the nation. The newspaper says federal universities located in areas classed under ‘Band A’ by electricity distribution companies have been bemoaning skyrocketing electricity bills. 

 

The Guardian reports that over N130 billion of shareholders’ funds is being trapped in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and ministry of finance after the companies were delisted from the capital market. The newspaper says Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, has expressed worries over the exit of multinational companies from Nigeria.
THISDAY reports that President Bola Tinubu said Nigeria cannot achieve security and peace without dealing with historical injustices. The newspaper says the federal government has declared a health emergency over the recent cholera outbreak in states.
