Newspaper Headlines: FG alerts Niger Delta, southern states over possible flooding

Reports on the September 21 governorship election in Edo state and petrol supply from Dangote Petrochemical Refinery dominate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

 

The Punch reports that there are indications that the leading political parties in the Edo governorship election are ready to outdo one another in vote-buying to win the poll scheduled for next Saturday. The newspaper says Oil marketers have confirmed that they will start lifting petrol from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery next week.

 

Vanguard reports that the federal government disclosed that the supply of petrol from Dangote Refinery will commence on Sunday after both parties reached an agreement on pricing and supply. The newspaper says two victims of the flood in Maiduguri, Borno state, died at the Bakassi internally displaced camp on Thursday while scrambling for food provided by the authorities.

The newspaper says the federal government has warned Niger Delta and other southern states to brace up for possible flooding.
