Newspaper Headlines: FG auditors probe NNPC’s N2.7trn subsidy refund claim

Conversations on the tax reform bills before the national assembly suffuse the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the office of the auditor-general of the federation has received the necessary and complete documents required to verify the N2.7 trillion fuel subsidy claim by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited. The newspaper says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the final forfeiture of a 753-duplex estate located in the federal capital territory (FCT).
Daily Trust reports that no fewer than 229 personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) were killed between January 2023 and October 2024. The newspaper quotes the presidency as saying the tax bills would not impoverish the north of the country as is being claimed in certain quarters.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is at loggerheads with some states over the non-implementation of the minimum wage. The newspaper says Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, has announced plans to construct an intra-city rail network to connect Maiduguri and surrounding areas.
The Nation reports that Tijani Kabiru, a customs officer, his wife, and four of their children died in a fire that gutted their residence in Akankan area of Ede, Osun state. The newspaper says government offices in Ebonyi, Kaduna, Nasarawa states and Abuja, were shut in compliance with the strike over the non-implementation of minimum wage.
