Newspaper Headlines: FG begins fresh bid rounds for oil blocks

Reports on the lingering petrol scarcity across the country dominate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that petrol now sells for N800 per litre, as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) on Monday began offloading 240 million litres of petrol in a bid to tackle the worsening nationwide scarcity. The newspaper says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating 1,146 bank accounts belonging to individuals and companies, over alleged money laundering, unauthorised dealing in foreign exchange, and illegal naira manipulation.
The Guardian reports that Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, has announced the increase in minimum wage in his state to N70,000. The newspaper says the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has announced the deregulation of meter prices under the meter asset provider (MAP) scheme for end-user customers.
Daily Trust reports that petrol marketers said only NNPCL can tell Nigerians when the current scarcity will end. The newspaper says the federal government warned that there will be total blackout in the country in the next three months if the electricity tariff hike is not implemented.
Vanguard reports that travellers and commuters nationwide were stranded at bus stops and motor parks on Monday due to the lingering petrol scarcity. The newspaper says a federal high court in Abuja has reprimanded the federal government for lack of diligent prosecution in the charge filed against Tukur Mamu, publisher of Desert Herald newspaper.
