Newspaper Headlines: FG budgets N24bn for accommodation of 10th n’assembly members

Reports on petrol subsidy removal and petitions before the presidential election tribunal, dominate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers today.

The Punch reports that over 100 top officers, including generals, brigadiers-general, air vice marshals, and admirals may proceed on compulsory retirement following the appointment of new service chiefs by President Bola Tinubu. The newspaper says the Department of State Services (DSS) claims that the detention of Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was backed by an order from a chief magistrate court in Abuja.

 

Vanguard reports that the rise in the ex-depot price of petrol to N490 per litre has made some filling stations to start selling the product above N500 per litre in some parts of Lagos. The newspaper says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue, after 10 hours of grilling.

 

Daily Trust reports that petrol subsidy removal and naira devaluation have led to a hike in the price of rams ahead of the celebration of Sallah. The newspaper says the presidential election tribunal has granted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) two additional days to conclude its petition.

The newspaper says Tinubu has approved the return of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to the office of the vice president for supervision.
