Newspaper Headlines: FG invites varsity unions as strike grounds institutions

Reports on opposition to the tax reform bill, and the strike in universities, suffuse the frontpages. 

The Punch reports that the federal government has invited the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) for a meeting over the ongoing strike. The newspaper says the 19 state governors in the northern region have expressed their displeasure on the recent tax reform bill the federal government submitted to the national assembly for approval.
Daily Trust reports that the federal government said it will restore electricity to the northern states in five days. The newspaper says the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced the clampdown on beggars and scavengers in the county’s capital.
Vanguard reports that the federal government has hinted at establishing state and regional blocs to prevent the recurring collapse of the national grid. The newspaper says the senate will screen the president’s ministerial nominees today.
The Guardian reports that the power outage in the northern part of the country is affecting Nigeria’s electricity supply to Niger Republic and Chad. The newspaper says Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), has summoned some judges over conflicting court rulings on the political crisis in Rivers state.
