Newspaper Headlines: FG more interested in 2023 polls than resolving strike, says ASUU

The comment made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that 45 percent of the completed nationwide voter registrations are invalid dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the house of representatives has condemned the rising insecurity in the country, especially the recent attacks in Benue, Taraba and Plateau states. The newspaper says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has asked the federal government to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other striking unions.
The Nation says the federal government said there is an “unholy” alliance between bandits and Boko Haram. The newspaper says INEC voided 1,126,359 new voter registrations.
Daily Independent says gunmen have attacked a police station in Anambra state, which led to the death of four police officers. ASUU has accused the federal government of being more interested in political activities towards the 2023 elections than resolving the ongoing strike, the newspaper reports.
The Guardian reports that the supreme court has affirmed the six years’ imprisonment handed to John Yakubu Yusuf, former federal director of pensions. The newspaper says bandits threatened to betroth the abducted five students of the College of Health Science and Technology in Tsafe area of Zamfara state.
Daily Trust reports that 29 persons died in a boat mishap that occurred in Sokoto. The newspaper says eight containers loaded with cutlasses have been intercepted in Lagos by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
