Newspaper Headlines: FG pays $120m out of $1.3bn owed gas companies as blackout spreads

Reports on President Bola Tinubu’s salvo at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), for its nationwide protests and strike threats, permeate the front pages today. 

The Punch reports that Wole Soyinka, Nobel laureate, said previous national conferences organised to address challenges facing Nigeria were deceitful. The newspaper says the house of representatives has described the 2012 Stephen Oronsaye report as outdated, while calling on President Tinubu to thoroughly review it before implementation.
The Nation says Tinubu has criticised what he described as incessant strikes and threats of industrial action by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). The newspaper says Tinubu has inaugurated the Lagos red rail line.
Daily Trust reports that many residents of Gonin Gora, Kakau Ward, in Chikun LGA of Kaduna state, blocked the Kaduna-Abuja highway following the killing of two local vigilantes and abduction of several residents by bandits. The newspaper says Tinubu travelled to Doha, Qatar with a 38-member delegation.
THISDAY reports that Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, has called on the federal government to open up power generation and transmission to private investors. The newspaper reports Soyinka as saying that decentralisation and restructuring are the best tools to achieve development of Nigeria.
