Newspaper Headlines: FG revokes training contract for ex-Niger Delta militants

The fatal accident on Lagos-Ibadan road that claimed the lives of 18 people dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

 

The Punch reports that some loyalists of Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, have called for the replacement of Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta, as the running mate of Atiku Abubakar, standard-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for the 2023 presidential election. The newspaper says the number of adult Nigerians with bank accounts has increased to 45%, according to the World Bank.
The Nation reports that the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) says it has recovered N1.4 trillion from debtors. The Guardian reports that Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential standard bearer of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), said the south-east is not ready to produce a president of the country. The newspaper says former President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo have called on Christians to continue to pray for peace and unity in Nigeria ahead of the 2023 general elections.
