Newspaper Headlines: FG screens Fani-Kayode, Femi Pedro for ambassadorial roles

The Punch reports that the federal government is vetting potential candidates to fill diplomatic roles in its 109 missions, 76 embassies, 22 high commissions, and 11 global consulates — with the likes of Femi Fani-Kayode and Femi Pedro getting a look-in. The newspaper says the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has waded into the lingering case involving 15 former domestic workers of Patience Jonathan, former first lady, who have remained in detention for six years over alleged theft of jewellery and other valuables.
The Nation reports that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has invited Muhammadu Sanusi, the Emir of Kano, for questioning over alleged violence that occurred during the recent Eid-el-Fitr celebration in Kano state. The newspaper says Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra state, has been officially nominated as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the November governorship election in the state.
Vanguard reports that residents of at least nine states are living in fear over the continued attacks by armed herdsmen. The newspaper says there is confusion over the conduct of the Anambra governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as accreditation of delegates was still in process as at 7pm on Saturday.
THISDAY reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has injected $197.71 million into the foreign exchange market to maintain market stability and liquidity amid the global shocks arising from falling oil prices and the new United States’ import tariffs. The newspaper says the Debt Management Office (DMO) said Nigeria’s total public debt has increased to N144.665 trillion as at December 31, 2024 against N97.34 trillion posted at the end of December 2023.
