The approval of President Muhammadu Buhari’s N2.343 trillion loan request by the senate and the funding of 2022 budget deficit dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that the federal government will fund N5.62 trillion deficit with loans in the 2022 budget. Faruk Yahaya, chief of army staff, said the troops of Nigerian Army are sending criminals to God, the newspaper says.

The Guardian says the federal government’s loan request has pushed Nigeria’s public debt to over N35.5 trillion. The newspaper reports that members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the national assembly have backed the resolutions of southern governors.

 

Daily Sun reports that Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno state, and northern groups have backed the south-east and the middle-belt for 2023 presidency. The newspaper says the national assembly approved Buhari’s N2.343 trillion loan request.

 

Daily Independent reports that the tenure extension of the caretaker committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has polarised the party. The newspaper says the federal executive council (FEC) has projected N9.16 trillion revenue in the 2022 budget with a deficit of N5.62 trillion.
