Newspaper Headlines: FG warns of 6 months jail as labour begins strike

Reports on the indefinite strike declared by organised labour over the minimum wage dominate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that Lateef Fagbemi, attorney-general of the federation, has faulted organised labour over the nationwide indefinite strike. The newspaper says the International Air Transport Association has confirmed that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has cleared trapped funds of foreign airlines to the tune of $831 million — from June last year to date.
Daily Trust reports that organised labour has insisted on an indefinite strike action despite the intervention of the national assembly.
Vanguard reports that the federal government borrowed N20.1 trillion from domestic investors in the first year of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The newspaper says power generation companies in Nigeria have raised the alarm over N3.7 trillion debt hindering their operations.
THISDAY reports that Wale Edun, the minister of finance, said the federal government is planning an economic stabilisation package to support the real sector of the economy and boost production. The newspaper says Geregu Power Plc and Siemens Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop solutions for capacity expansion at the Geregu 1 power plant.
