Newspaper Headlines: FG wrong to join Lagos in LG autonomy suit, says Sanwo-Olu

Reports on the court order directing the police to evict Aminu Bayero, dethroned Emir of Kano, permeate the frontpages of the dailies.

The Punch reports that the federal executive council (FEC) under President Bola Tinubu has awarded 51 contracts worth N6.27 trillion for infrastructural projects across the federation in eight months. The newspaper says Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, said Lateef Fagbemi, attorney-general of the federation, is wrong to join Lagos in the suit against state governments on local government autonomy.
Daily Trust says Fagbemi has called for the scrapping of state independent electoral commissions (SIECs). The newspaper says a Kano high court has ordered the police to evict Aminu Bayero, the dethroned Emir of Kano, from the palace.
The Guardian reports that Nigerians spent over N500 billion on internet data subscription in the first quarter of 2024. The newspaper says Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation and aerospace development, said the Nigeria Air project remains suspended.
THISDAY reports that the Kano state government has warned that Bayero should be evacuated from the palace as he constitutes a security risk to the state. The newspaper says Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, said he will support a merger of political parties if it will make Nigeria better.
