Newspaper Headlines: Four killed during supplementary polls | APC consolidates senate majority

Reports on Saturday’s supplementary elections in 24 states dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the supplementary elections held in some states on Saturday were marred by violence as four persons were killed in Kano and Kebbi states. The newspaper says Dauda Biu, corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the rate of accidents in the country is disturbing.
The Nation reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has consolidated its 10th senate majority with two additional senate seats, which were secured during Saturday’s supplementary elections. The newspaper says Timipre Sylva, immediate past minister of state for petroleum resources, has won the APC governorship primary election in Bayelsa.
Daily Trust reports that Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa, maintained a lead in the governorship election after the collation of results from 10 out of 20 LGAs where the supplementary election was held. The newspaper says major political parties in the country are battling post-election crises.
THISDAY reports that senators-elect of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are mobilising themselves to support the south-east for the position of senate president. The newspaper says Nigeria’s inflation rate has hit 22.04 percent as the hike in prices of food items persists.
The Guardian reports that reactions have trailed the $800 million loan secured by the federal government from the World Bank for palliatives to Nigeria after the proposed removal of petrol subsidy.
