Newspaper Headlines: G5 governors divided over adoption of Tinubu, Obi

Reports on the refusal of the G5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers. 

Saturday Punch reports that the divided interests of the G5 governors have stalled the endorsement of the group’s preferred presidential candidate for the 2023 elections. The newspaper says Guaranty Trust Bank has joined the growing list of Nigerian banks suspending international transactions on naira cards.
The Nation says Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has dared the national leadership of the PDP to expel him over alleged anti-party activity. The newspaper reports that Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, said his administration will soon take delivery of drones that will be deployed on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Daily Trust says many Nigerians are now exploring other destinations after Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) slammed a total visa ban on citizens of Nigeria in October 2022. The newspaper reports that the military joint task force destroyed 37 militant camps and over 1,883 illegal oil refining sites in the Niger Delta region in 2022. 
Saturday Sun says some prominent elders in the PDP have expressed fears that the purported deal that the G5 governors have with Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), may affect PDP’s chances in the 2023 elections. The newspaper reports that the Lagos state government said the construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge will gulp $2.5 billion and will be delivered in four years.
THISDAY says Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has dismissed speculations that G5 governors struck a deal to support Tinubu for the 2023 presidential election. The newspaper reports that President Muhammadu Buhari will sign the 2023 budget, next week Tuesday.
