Newspaper Headlines: Governors advise Tinubu against endorsing candidates for n’assembly leadership

Speculations on the leadership positions of the 10th National Assembly dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says Bola Tinubu, president-elect, and governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have agreed to zone the leadership positions of the 10th national assembly. The newspaper says the federal government is planning a supplementary budget after the national executive council called for the suspension of petrol subsidy removal.
Daily Independent says some of the foreign companies operat­ing in Nigeria may have started quitting the country over the failure of the feder­al government to refund foreign airlines $744 million in blocked funds. The newspaper reports that President Muhammadu Buhari said the opposition parties lost the 2023 presidential election owing to overconfidence, complacency and bad tactical moves.
Daily Sun reports that Bola Tinubu has rejected the proposal made by some members of the APC leadership that the senate presidency should be zoned to the south-south. The newspaper says the supreme court has granted the request of the federal government to file additional grounds in the appeal against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Daily Trust says Bola Tinubu has settled for Godswill Akpabio, former governor of Akwa Ibom, and Jibrin Barau, a senator from Kano, to become the next senate president and deputy, respectively. The newspaper reports that the federal government disclosed that 1,500 Nigerians in Sudan will arrive in Abuja today.
