Newspaper Headlines: Governors move to delay implementation of LGA autonomy

The boat mishap in Niger state, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s take on rotational presidency, and LGA autonomy dominate the frontpages of Nigerian dailies today.

The Punch reports that state governors have begun fresh lobbying against the enforcement of the verdict of the supreme court on LGA autonomy, ahead of the submission of the report of the 10-member inter-ministerial committee. According to the newspaper, oil marketers say the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) portal for petrol purchase has been shut against dealers.  
THISDAY reports that Ali Ndume, senator representing Borno south in the national assembly, has advised President Bola Tinubu to employ the services of military contractors to wipe out Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state. The newspaper says the federal government has unveiled a set of fiscal incentives and concessions designed to bolster operations in the nation’s upstream and downstream sectors of the economy.
Daily Trust reports that over 16 persons have been buried and 150 still missing following a boat mishap that occurred at Mokwa LGA of Niger state. The newspaper says Atiku Abubakar has asked the national assembly to create a single six-year single tenure for anyone who becomes president of Nigeria.
Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, has threatened a N5 billion defamation lawsuit against Kola Olabisi, media director of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over allegations against him, Tribune reports. The newspaper says the house of representatives has rejected the planned conferment of the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) on Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the green chamber.
