Newspaper Headlines: Gunmen abduct 13 as kidnapping returns to FCT

Reports on the deepening political crisis in Rivers state dominate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

Daily Trust reports that at least 295 people have been killed in road accidents during the first quarter of 2024. The newspaper says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kicked against the plot to impeach Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers.
The Guardian reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said inflation should the main determinant of the new minimum wage. The newspaper says the political crisis in Rivers state has deepened with lawmakers loyal to Fubara electing a new speaker.
The Nation reports that the presidency said the cybersecurity levy was introduced to tackle cybercrimes and terrorism. The newspaper says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign Hadi Sirika, a former minister of aviation, for alleged corruption to the tune of N4.135 billion.
Vanguard reports that the Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Afenifere, and the house of representatives have faulted the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road. The newspaper says the military has withdrawn personnel from Okuama community in Delta state, where 17 soldiers were killed in March.
