Newspaper Headlines: Gunmen kill 4, abduct 150 in Zamfara

Reports on spiralling food inflation in Nigeria suffuse the frontpages. The dailies also dwell on an automobile agreement between CIG Motors and the Lagos state government. 

The Punch reports that the organised private sector has blamed the worsening insecurity in the country for the food inflation which increased to 40.87 percent in June 2024, up from 25.25 percent in June 2023. The newspaper says the Kano high court has sacked Aminu Bayero, dethroned Emir of Kano, and four other emirs of the state.
The Guardian reports that Nigeria is on the verge of a food crisis owing to the rising inflation in the country. The newspaper says President Bola Tinubu may transmit the minimum wage bill to the national assembly next week.
Daily Trust reports that bandits have killed four people and abducted 150 others during an attack on Dan Isa village, Kaura Namoda LGA of Zamfara state. Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, says Nigerians can now apply for and obtain visas to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Vanguard reports that the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) said the country’s inflation rose by 90 percent. The newspaper says universities in the country are groaning over high tariffs imposed on them by electricity distribution companies.
The Nation reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) will commence export of petroleum products by December 2024. The newspaper says the federal government said 740 trucks of rice will be supplied to the 36 states and the federal capital territory (FCT).
